I remember meeting Dom Hodgson ‘aka’ Pack Leader Dog Adventures 5 years ago at a Sunderland Business Network meeting. Dom had just launched his ‘Dog Adventure’ business and being a canine lover I was ‘all ears’ to hear about his new venture.
2 months later there I was, well Mr Rossi to be precise, as one of Dom’s first customers. Now Mr Rossi doesn’t speak ‘hooman’ but his body language tells me everytime he returns from his adventures or holiday stays with PLDA that he has had the best time with his fellow canine pals.
Fast forward 5 years and Dom is about to launch his first book – ‘How to be your dog’s Superhero’. I was delighted to be able to read a draft copy before it was sent to print and I have to say it’s one of the best dog training books I’ve read and it’s written in typical Dom style, ‘telling it how it is’ – no BS basically.
Anyhow, I’m so proud to know this guy and I really wish him, the book and the business all the luck in the world :)

Happy Birthday to me…6 years ago today I launched marketing geni.
Little did I know that six years later I’d have worked with some amazing clients and collaborators.
Now who is going to bake me a cake?
KIT or ‘keep in touch’ should form a huge part of your CRM ‘customer relationship management’ system.
I’m on site with one of my clients every week. My job is to keep on top of their marketing but more importantly their CRM and sales funnel.
Some of their projects can have great turnaround times, often 6 to 12 months after submitting a proposal. So it’s my job to ‘KIT’ with these prospects and make sure they stay with this particular clients name at the forefront of their minds and never go cold, after all we’re normally pitched against at least 3 other companies.
Just last month I had a call from a company I’d remained in touch with. He called on the day I was in the office and said
“Heather, great news, I’ve got the green light to place the order. I knew on Friday we had the go ahead however I wanted to wait and tell you personally.”
To say I was happy is an understatement. Being a sales person you get that buzz when a deal comes off, my client was happy to receive a nice £30k order but most importantly it proved that the ‘KIT’ system works.
If you want to have a chat to see how CRM and KIT systems can work for your business, give me a call :)

Until next year…..
My Monday morning was spent sat in a local car dealership waiting for my car to have it’s annual service. Taking advantage of the free wifi I set upon doing some work in the nice comfy waiting area.
As a sales consultant I love listening and watching other people ‘sell’ and today was no exception. One of the sales guys was on the ball for a Monday and with the landlines being down in the dealership showed initiative and started to do his follow up calls from his own mobile.
25 minutes later and what I could hear lots of objections overcome, explanation of each option PCP or HP he clinched the deal. I was really chuffed for him and his boss came over in the closing moments to hear him too and sat eagerly waiting for him to hang up. But what happened next astonished me…I wasn’t expecting a hive 5 or fist pump but a mere “well done” would have been good, but nothing. The ‘boss man’ simply took the name and deal and went off and it left me and more than likely the sales guy deflated :(
Both disappeared in opposite directions and as the service manager arrived back with my keys and I told him to tell the sales consultant “well done” from me. I hope he got the message and it motivates him to do another deal today, not like his figure hungry/KPI driven boss who didn’t seem the slightest bit interested at all.
Happy Birthday to me! Where have those 5 years gone since I launched ‘marketing geni’?
I’ve worked with some great companies and have a host of wonderful other freelancers who have helped me complete some amazing projects.
From rebranding to email marketing, social media to sales projects I’ve worked with such an eclectic mix of businesses which has helped me grow too.
Thank you to all the clients that have helped make ‘geni’ so successful and to all the partners I’ve worked with on some amazing projects, thank you too.
So here’s to the next 5 years…..

It was great to work with NY Design again this month on the launch of a new section to Howard Russell’s website.
Howard Russell are striding ahead with the use of BIM in their construction projects and this really comes across in the new pages on their website.
